Stucco is it in Tucson
The new homes built in Tucson, Arizona all seem to have the same exterior finish, stucco, no matter where one buys. The days of wood siding and slump block seem to be fading, and perhaps for good reason. The stucco finish so prevalent today requires less maintenance than wood siding does with it’s thousands of nail penetrations, joints, seams and expansion/contraction issues. And stucco is now typically applied over a wood frame wall that can be filled with energy saving insulation, in contrast to the old slump block walls, which have no added insulation. So is stucco all there is? It seems to be so. Even the High End Residential homes popping up in the mountain foothills are covered in stucco. This veneer can cover the home almost seamlessly. Details to customize each home are also part of the stucco finish, from trim around the windows and doors to thicker bands at the base of the wall and porch supports.
