Say “Cheese”!

The next time you hear someone tell you to say "Cheese!" just think about that smile of yours.  In the United States, there is a lot of emphasis that is placed on a person’s mouth.  Cosmetic dentistry is one of the most successful fields right now in terms of demand.  People are running to their dentists to have their teeth whitened, veneers put on and smiles straightened as best as they can so that the next time they open up their mouths to show those pearly whites, they’re actually pearly and white.  So, what is with the fascination of having your teeth bleached whitened and so on?  Perhaps the simple issue isn’t so simple but rather, has a larger underlying theme.  Perhaps the whole revolution of teeth whitening has to do with insecurity or self-image issues.  Why are Ameicans so obsessed with their images?  We see it all the time with models and magazines and TV shows; everyone wants to look a certain way.  If actors and actresses and the media portrayed people who were overweight and had stained, crooked teeth, would we then idolize them and think that that looks good?
