The inportance of a project Work Breakdown Structure
According to the Project Management Institute (PMI), the WBS or work breakdown structure is the backbone of project management. Simply stated it is the basis for all project management techniques and should always be completed.A good Project Management Consultant will ensure that it is leveraged on their project as a means to identify the scope of the project across all stakeholder groups. It can be completed in picture form, much like an organization chart, or it can be done in line form. The key is to decompose the tasks by module and to focus on each module until the unknown tasks are defined an a level that will drive out a understanding of scope.The WBS is a very good way to quickly communicate the project managers understanding of the project and that it clearly communicates to the rest of the team the project mangers understanding of scope.Don’t start a project without one!
