Don’t Default- Modify the Mortgage
I was thrilled when a new family of five moved in next door. This happy, warm little family finally realized their dream of home ownership when they bought their cosy three-bedroom home with an adjustable rate mortgage. Things were going well for all of us until local businesses started laying off workers and my neighbors and I both lost our jobs. We all found work but my neighbors’ mortgage payment doubled in one month. With the lower salary and higher payments, they were sure they would lose their home until I suggested they try a loan modification. When they talked to their banker, he helped them get a lower interest, fixed rate mortgage they can afford. They kept their house and I am delighted to still have my wonderful neighbors.
